In AutoCAD LT what has been limited from the AutoCAD software are 3D capabilities, advanced customization, and network licensing. There is a misconception that "LT" means "lite," but it really means more FOCUSED and commonly used technology. With Autodesk Inventor LT, we identified a subset of users in the supply chain who need to create, edit, and share 3D part designs, but do not necessarily need to build complete, robust 3D prototypes. This does not mean that AutoCAD LT and Inventor LT are alike, rather it means that a subset of features from the full product are now available, based on a need we heard from our customers. In that case, the "LT" nomenclature represents a limited-capability version of the original. Autodesk chose to use "LT" in the Autodesk Inventor LT name because the manufacturing world and Autodesk community have a good understanding of it from their experiences with AutoCAD LT. The general philosophy of an "LT" product is to focus on crucial, commonly used functionality and make it more accessible to a segment of our customers. LT stands for "Limited Technology" - but don't let that sway you. ![]()
